Alex Kochon

Alex plunged down the journalism path at the ripe age of 14 as an overeager reporter for her high-school newspaper. She was promptly schooled in the basics—journalism ethics, research, and deadlines—and graduated with an unwavering desire to learn more and write for a living.

That drive led her to Emerson College in Boston, where she studied print and multimedia journalism and graduated at the top of her class. It also brought her to the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, China, where she interned with the Olympic News Service and interviewed Usain Bolt after his record-breaking 100-meter sprint.

A year later, Alex landed her first “big-girl” job as a full-time sports reporter for The Post-Star daily newspaper in Glens Falls, New York. Her first feature article for the 40,000-circulation paper garnered Associated Press Sports Editors and New York State AP awards, and she later penned a popular weekly column titled “Anything Active”, highlighting local fitness and recreation opportunities.

She went on to serve as managing editor at FasterSkier.com, where she covered World Championships across Europe and reported live from the 2014 Winter Olympics in Sochi, Russia. Her work helped elevate the site’s editorial standards and global reach.

For the last seven years, Alex has worked with The Orvis Company, first as a freelance proofreader and now as a contract copy editor and retail/UX copywriter. She helps define and uphold the brand’s voice across digital and print campaigns, sitewide product copy, retail signage, and seasonal promotions—blending her editorial expertise with a deep understanding of the outdoor lifestyle.

Along the way, she’s also collaborated with Boulder Nordic Sport, served as a content creator and category launch specialist for Curated.com, and co-created Ride On!, a mountain bike trail guide and magazine she publishes with her dad in New York’s Adirondacks.

A certified personal trainer for eight years and a longtime advocate for community wellness, Alex directs 5K fundraisers for two nonprofit organizations and served as the first executive director of the Common Roots Foundation. She continues to write for outlets like Adirondack Sports & Fitness and offers copyediting, proofreading, and writing services for businesses, nonprofits, and individuals.
